Sketches and studies

After visiting Tintagel Castle at the end of September last year I set about collating all the photographs I had taken and began making small black and white sketches on A4 sheets. Exploring line, texture and working out the beginnings of possible compositions. These black and white sketches led to the development of a range of small studies using crayons and pencil. From this I made several larger studies on paper to present to English Heritage in late October. Below are a selection of the sketches I created and the final study selected by English Heritage for the painting  'Passage'.
